Abstract:Svetlobno onesnaženje je povečanje naravne osvetljenosti okolja, ki ga povzročajo umetni svetlobni viri.

Title:Light Pollution in the Municipalities of the Savinja Plain
Abstract:Light pollution is an increase in the natural luminance of the environment caused by artificial light sources. It harms human and animal health, threatens the natural balance, and causes glare, which can also compromise road safety. Unnecessary illumination of the sky and areas at night not only interferes with professional and amateur astronomical observations, but also consumes electricity and additional financial resources. Examples of good and bad practices of outdoor lighting in the municipalities of the Savinja plain are presented alongside ecological lighting, which helps reduce the negative impact on the biosphere. In this thesis, we want to inform the public about the state of light pollution in the Savinja plain. The light pollution situation was analysed at the level of municipalities and settlements. Light pollution was determined using two separate methods: our own measurements of skyglow (in standardised units of mag/arc sec2) with the SQM instrument and the analysis of remote sensing data provided by the VIIRS instrument on the Suomi NPP satellite, operated by NASA and NOAA. The analysis of the remote sensing data was also used to present the detected differences in light pollution in the study area for the period 2014–2022 and to compare the situation in 2022 with the situation in the entire country.
