Abstract:
Deklici sta skozi branje literarnega dela Andreja E. Skubica ob prisotnosti psa terapevta izboljšali glasno branje in odnos ter motivacijo do branja.

Title:
Impact of a therapy dog on the reading literacy of immigrant children
Abstract:
In today's world, children's reading literacy is very important for their successful integration and functioning in modern society. For immigrant children, who face cultural and language challenges in their new environment, developing these skills is especially demanding. It is also a significant challenge for educators in schools, who try to assist these children in various ways and with different methods. One of these methods, which has not yet been tested in practice, is therapy with dogs. The presence of a dog has many positive effects, which led us to explore in this master's thesis whether its presence in the R.E.A.D. program influences the reading literacy of immigrant children. With the help of the "Tačke pomagačke" association, we observed the loud reading of two immigrant students in the presence of a therapy dog and assessed the state of reading literacy components, including reading motivation. To gain additional insight, we also conducted an interview with the therapy dog's handler and a school educator. Through our research, we thoroughly examined each component of reading literacy, and based on this, we developed measurement instruments for observation in the empirical part. While reading Andrej E. Skubic's literary work in the presence of the therapy dog, the girls improved their loud reading, as well as their attitude and motivation towards reading.
