Abstract:Počasno spreminjajoči se obrazci vsakodnevnega funkcioniranja znotraj romske skupnosti in počasno spreminjajoči se odnosi in obnašanje večinskega prebivalstva do Romov so v kombinaciji z revščino oziroma težko socialno situacijo eni od glavnih problemov, s katerimi se soočajo Romi na Hrvaškem, in eni od glavnih razlogov njihove socialne izključenosti.

Title:The relationship between perceived social injustice, psychosocial characteristics and planned enrollment in secondary school among young members of the Roma community: the role of gender and ethnic diversity of the class : magistrsko delo
Abstract:The slowly changing forms of daily functioning within the Roma community and the slowly changing attitudes and behavior of the majority population towards the Roma are one of the main problems combined with poverty or a difficult social situation faced by the Roma in Croatia and one of the main reasons for their social exclusion. In most indicators social inclusion the situation in Roma households is very bad, especially in Međimurje and in the north of Croatia. Also, Međimurje and the north of Croatia have the highest percentage of illiterate young people, as well as young people who have not enrolled in primary school at all or have abandoned it, with young Roma women especially standing out. In addition, Međimurje has the highest percentage of young people who dropped out of high school. Based on typical regional differences, the participants of the current research were 8th grade elementary school students in Varaždin and Međimurje counties. The main purpose of the thesis is to examine the differences in the level of perceived social injustice (general, school) among young members of the Roma community who are members of an ethnically diverse class, compared to their classmates who are members of the majority. Before that, we check the differences in the level of perceived social injustice (general, school) between young members of the majority who have no contact with Roma at school, and young members of the majority who are members of an ethnically diverse class. In the research 270 pupils of the 8th grade of elementary school in the Varaždin and Međimurje counties participated. 56 students in the sample are members of the Roma community, and 214 students are members of the majority. Regarding the ethnic diversity of the class, we can say that 91 students are members of the majority, who do not have contact with young members of the Roma community at school. 18 students are members of the Roma community, who have no contact with members of the majority in class. 161 students are part of an ethnically diverse class (41 students are part of an ethnically diverse class, where young members of the Roma community are in the majority, and 120 students are part of an ethnically diverse class, where members of the majority dominate). We are finding out significant intergroup differences among members of an ethnically diverse class in direction of a higher level of perceived general and school injustice among members of the majority in relation to classmates from the Roma community. We note that schoolgirls belonging to the Roma community show significantly higher level of perceived family injustice in relation to pupils belonging to the Roma community. We also note that the level of perceived general, school and family injustice among young members of the Roma community is an important factor in the subjective well-being, self-esteem and social support of peers. Researching the topic is relevant, as there is not much research conducted in Croatia that would consider the social-psychological patterns that young members of the Roma community encounter in everyday life, and their consequences on the continuation of education from the perspective of the Roma themselves.
