Title:Optimizing the manufacturing process of segmented conveyor belts using simulation tools
Abstract:The master's thesis encompasses the process of collecting measurements from a real production system for the manufacturing of segments for segmented conveyor belts, their statistical analysis, and input into the simulation tool Simio. In the Simio simulation program, the current production process was simulated and validated based on experimentally obtained measurements. Two additional optimized simulation models were prepared: the first included automatic segment punching while the second model replaced the current production process with a CNC cutting machine. The obtained simulation results were compared and evaluated, and based on them, an optimized process that is most suitable for implementation was determined. The most suitable process was determined based on the total execution time of the production process, the worker's occupancy during the process, and the distance traveled by the worker during the process. The process with the CNC cutting machine was identified as the most suitable because it is easy to implement and because it achieves the shortest production times with the least travel distance and workers.
