Abstract:Namen magistrske naloge je raziskati vpliv mikro reliefa grbinastih travnikov na variabilnost morfoloških potez jajčastolistnega muhovnika (Neottia ovata). Grbinasti travniki so površinski geomorfološki pojav, prisoten v alpskem svetu, vključno s Slovenijo.

Title:The effect of hummocky meadow micro-relief on the eggleaf twayblade Neottia ovata (L.) Bluff & Fingerh macro-morphological trait variability
Abstract:The aim of the master's thesis is to explore the impact of micro-relief in hummocky meadows on the variability of the morphological traits of the eggleafed twayblade (Neottia ovata). Hummocky meadows are a surface geomorphological phenomenon present in the Alpine world, including Slovenia. They represent significant natural and cultural heritage that needs to be preserved and maintained. The eggleafed twayblade, a member of the orchid family (Orchidaceae), belongs to the Euro-Siberian Circumboreal element and is one of the most widespread orchid species in Slovenia. In this study, we surveyed 23 hummocks on a selected hummocky meadow located along the road leading to the Vršič Pass at an elevation of 1353 meters. On the site we measured 383 specimens of the eggleafed twayblade and recorded values of their morphological traits, such as plant height, inflorescence length, number of flowers, number of fertilized flowers, leaf area, chlorophyll content in leaves, plant height on the hummock, substrate depth, and the height of the surrounding grass cover. Using statistical methods, we determined correlations between the micro-relief (dimensions of hummocks) of the hummocky meadow and the measured values of the morphological traits of the eggleafed twayblade. We found that the position of plants on the hummock most significantly affects inflorescence length, number of flowers, and percentage of fertilized flowers. The results indicate that individual hummocks create specific microclimatic and pedological conditions that play a crucial role in creating optimal habitat conditions for the eggleafed twayblade. Additionally, regularly maintained hummocky meadows are important habitats for preserving local biodiversity. Therefore, it is essential to properly manage and conserve these characteristic Alpine meadows.
