Abstract:Namen naše študije je bil raziskati, kakšne so povezave med perfekcionizmom, ruminacijo in socialno anksioznostjo. Uporabili smo Frostovo multidimenzionalno lestvico perfekcionizma (FMPS; Frost idr., 1990), Vprašalnik ruminacije in refleksije (RRQ; Trapnell in Campbell, 1999) ter Liebowitzovo lestvico socialne anksioznosti (LSAS; Liebowitz, 1987).

Title:Rumination as a mediator between perfectionism and social anxiety
Abstract:The purpose of this study was to examine the associations among perfectionism, rumination and social anxiety. Our main goal was to determine, whether rumination acts as a mediator in the relationship between perfectionism and social anxiety. We were also interested in gender differences in these constructs. Our sample consisted of 328 adult individuals. We used the Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (FMPS; Frost et al., 1990), the Rumination and Reflection Questionnaire (RRQ; Trapnell & Campbell, 1999), and the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (LSAS; Liebowitz, 1987). The results showed significant positive correlations between rumination and social anxiety, perfectionism and rumination, and perfectionism and social anxiety. This also includes individual dimensions of perfectionism such as concern over mistakes, doubts about actions, personal standards, parental expectations and parental criticism, with the exception of the dimension organization. Mediation analysis showed that rumination partially mediates the relationship between perfectionism and social anxiety. We also discovered significantly higher levels of rumination and social anxiety in women than in men, but we did not find significant gender differences in perfectionism. The findings of our research suggest that developing interventions to reduce perfectionism and rumination may also help to lower levels of social anxiety in individuals.
