Abstract:Uvod: Arterijska hipertenzija predstavlja globalen problem, ki povečuje pogostejša obolevanja za srčno-žilnim obolenjem in slabšo kakovost življenja posameznika. Uporabili smo deskriptivno metodo dela, metodo analize in sinteze. Literaturo smo pridobili iz podatkovnih baz PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science in Cochrane Library.

Title:Medication adherence and disease management in patients with arterial hypertension
Abstract:Introduction: Arterial hypertension represents a global problem that increases the incidence of cardiovascular diseases and reduces one's quality of life, therefore the treatment with medication, if taken regularly, is very important and contributes to the improvement of the individual's condition. The purpose of the thesis is to investigate medication adherence in connection with disease management in patients with arterial hypertension. Methods: We systematically reviewed the scientific literature on medication adherence and its impact on disease management in patients with arterial hypertension. We employed descriptive methods, as well as methods of analysis and synthesis. The literature was sourced from databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were predetermined, and the entire literature review process was presented using a PRISMA diagram. Results: From the 302 identified articles, we included seven studies in the final analysis. Some studies exposed the effects of inadequate medication adherence on disease progression, the acceleration of other illnesses, and higher mortality rates. They also highlighted the crucial role of healthcare professionals in educating patients about the significance of a healthy lifestyle, managing arterial hypertension, regular blood pressure monitoring, and ensuring consistent adherence. Discussion and Conclusion: We believe that more frequent monitoring of medication adherence consistency in relation to disease management in patients with arterial hypertension will be necessary, along with enhanced patient education on this matter. More research in this field will be required to better understand the consequences of adherence.
