Title:Pedagogical workers` views on tattoos in suburban primary schools in the Podravje region
Abstract:The Master's thesis aimed to investigate the attitudes of pedagogical workers towards tattoos in their profession and how tattoos affect their relationships and interactions with colleagues and other participants in work relationships. We also paid particular attention to the occurrence of tattoos during job interviews and in the teaching profession. In the theoretical part, we first focused on tattoos themselves. We concentrate on the oldest known example of tattoos, how the history of tattooing varies across continents, and what the role of tattoos is in today's society. Then, we looked at attitudes, stereotypes, prejudices, and taboos about tattoos, as they are not fully accepted today. In the empirical part, we used an empirical qualitative method, semi-structured interviews, which were conducted on an opportunity sample of 20 teachers and 6 headteachers in the Podravje region, to find out how much attention headteachers pay to tattoos among their employees and how employees in education accept their tattoos. We found that teachers with tattoos do not have major problems with them at work, but problems may arise during recruitment phase. The survey shows that tattoos do not affect relationships between colleagues, nor do they affect relationships with pupils and parents. Teachers with tattoos have a positive experience when working with pupils, as they can use tattoos as a topic for discussion about tolerance and acceptance of difference.
