Abstract:Oreh je gospodarsko pomembna drevesna vrsta zaradi lesa in plodov.

Title:Impact of the walnut husk fly Rhagoletis completa (Cresson, 1929) ( Diptera: Tephritidae) on the development of walnut seed ( Juglans regia L.)
Abstract:The walnut is an economically important tree species for its wood and fruits. In 1991, a non-native species of fruit fly from the USA and Mexico appeared in Europe and is a monophage of the genus Juglans - the nut fly (Rhagoletis completa), which causes economic damage to walnut plantations. In the last two decades, it has also appeared in Slovenia. The nut fly causes damage to walnuts where female lays eggs in the green part of the fruit, which leads to damage the kernels. The aim of the MSc thesis was to study the impact of nut fly presence on the kernel quality of domestic walnuts and the benefits of using a veil as a mechanical repellent. The study, carried out in a walnut grove in Skrblje, focused on the impact of the nut fly on the quality of the kernels. In the two observation years (2020 and 2022), it was found that the impact of the nut fly is pronounced, with a lower impact in 2022 because of the use of netting as a preventive measure. In both years, it was observed that fruits with a higher level of fly damage were also more likely to have damaged kernels. We found that parasitisation caused blackening of most of the endocarp and the seed. Our findings help to elucidate the understanding of the negative impact of the nut fly in walnut groves. These findings not only reveal the direct economic costs, but also provide a basis for developing control strategies that could ensure the health and productivity of walnut plantations in the future.
