Title:Stress and burnout among pedagogical workers working with children with intellectual disabilities
Abstract:In this Master's thesis, we have studied the experience of stress and burnout among pedagogical workers working with children with intellectual disabilities. In the theoretical part, we have described intellectual disabilities in children and explored in detail the concepts of stress and burnout, both in general for pedagogical workers and in the context of working with children with intellectual disabilities. We have delved into the consequences of stress and burnout and analysed strategies to manage them. In the empirical part, using an online survey, we found no gender differences in experiencing stress, but women reported higher levels of burnout. Across age groups, it was found that younger pedagogical workers reported the highest levels of stress but not burnout, while more experienced workers experienced higher levels of stress. Organizational factors of the school, such as administrative matters, pupils' behaviour and parents' expectations, were the main sources of stress and burnout. The consequences of these conditions were most manifested at the emotional level. Nevertheless, it has been positively noted that the majority of pedagogical workers uses strategies to cope with stress and burnout.
