Title:Developing reading literacy of preschool children through creating an original picture book
Abstract:This thesis presents a picture book as a special form of literature. Its uniqueness is expressed through the intertwining of two codes of communication and their content-form relationship. Thus, the reader obtains part of the information about the story through the text and part from the illustrations. Depending on the extent to which the reader gains information from the text and from the illustrations, three categories are distinguished: symmetric, complementary, and graded interaction. Also presented is an original story about a boy named Maks, whose plans are thwarted by an accident one day before his birthday. Due to an injury, he cannot celebrate with his friends as he had imagined. Despite all the complications, he ultimately realizes what truly matters in life. The practical section of the thesis presents and analyses the implementation of activities in kindergarten, focusing on two groups of children of different ages. After reading, the children answered questions, and certain differences were observed in their responses between the groups.
