Abstract:Temeljni namen magistrskega dela je bil podrobneje proučiti sekularizacijske trende v osmih izbranih evropskih državah.

Title:Trends in religiosity in slovenia and selected european countries
Abstract:The main purpose of the master thesis was to examine secularisation trends in eight selected European countries in more detail. We used the secondary data analysis method with the help of SPSS software. We used data from the European Social Survey between 2002 and 2020, which allowed us to compare the values between the selected countries longitudinally. Based on the analyses carried out, we can conclude that secularisation is taking place in Europe. In all the countries studied, we found that the proportion of those who regularly attend religious services and the proportion of individuals who regularly pray outside a religious institution have declined over the period. The data also show that in most of the countries covered, the level of self-rated religiosity, assessed on a scale of 0 to 10, is declining. On this dimension, we have also observed that on the other hand, the number of fervent believers is increasing year by year, which is indicative of religious polarization. It has also been shown that in some countries, the proportions belonging to religious communities tend to increase over the years. At the same time as other aspects of religiosity are on the decline, it can be said that the trend of 'belonging without believing' is on the rise in these countries. This is a way of adapting religion to modern times, whereby individuals identify with a particular religion, but many of them have little regard for the religious and moral convictions and ritual expectations of their religion.
