Title:Comparative Analysis of the Business Success in the Hotel Industry : Slovenia Case Study
Abstract:Every year, the importance of tourism at international and national level is strengthened in the share of GDP, employment, exports and investment. One of the most important restrictive factors of the national tourism capacities are accommodation facilities, which is in the international hotel industry usually measured with the number of hotel rooms (USALI). The room is also an established category for measuring the performance of operations on the basis of monetary and nonmonetary measures. The paper analyzes the achievements of the hotel industry in Slovenia between 2008 and 2017. For this study, SURS and Ajpes data were analysed based on selected monetary and non-monetary performance indicators per employee and per room. The results show that the number of overnight stays and net sales revenues does not increase proportionally regarding to the employee and the room. Also, the value of performance indicators achieves on average a higher growth regarding to the employee, as compared to the room. We conclude from the survey that more content that requires different knowledge of employees need to be offered to more demanding guests. Beside that, there should be more investments in superior products, which will generate higher added value per employee and per room.
