Title:On-site Visualization using BIM and Extended Reality
Abstract:In the last year, there has been a lot of talk about the BIM approach in the construction industry in Slovenia, as it will soon be legally mandatory (according to GZ-1) for all projects financed with public funds, starting from 1 January 2025. Abroad, in individual countries, the BIM approach has been in constant use in practice for several years, due to a better understanding and management of construction processes. In our country, however, we began to realize the importance and advantages of the BIM approach in the last few years, mainly due to international guidelines, European projects and strategies, and the ever-increasing emphasis on digitization. Extended reality, which includes VR (virtual reality), AR (augmented reality) and MR (mixed reality), is becoming increasingly important on the construction site, as the latter two in particular allow for interactive visualization on construction sites, which has an impact on improving the productivity, quality and safety of construction projects. In the master's thesis, we used the Trimble XR10 helmet with the HoloLens 2 visor, developed by the companies Trimble and Microsoft for the construction industry, to visually monitor the compliance of the plans and the BIM model with the actual situation on the construction site. We also compared the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional approach compared to an advanced approach involving the use of BIM and MR.
