Abstract:Ličinka hrošča semenarja vrste Megabruchidius dorsalis je oligofagni granivor dveh vrst iz poddružine Caesalpinioideade.

Title:Morphological variability of balkan populations of beetle Megabruchidius dorsalis (Fåhræus, 1839)
Abstract:The larva of the seed beetle Megabruchidius dorsalis is an oligophagous granivore of two taxa from the subfamily Caesalpinioideade. The species originates from Asia and was first found in Europe in Italy in 1989. Since its first discovery, it has spread throughout most of Eastern, Western, and Central Europe. The aim of our research was to measure the body variability of beetle Megabruchidius dorsalis; to evaluate morphological variability within and between Balkan populations; to compare the variability of measured morphological parameteres between sexes within and between populations; to check if there are any biogeographical patterns along geographic longitude and latitude. We mearued 171 beetles from six locations in the Balkan (Maribor, Volčji potok, Zagreb, Banjaluka, Nikšić, and Tirana). We did measurements on dry material and because of that the beetles had their head curled towards their abdomen. We had to moist the material and after 24 hours they were prepared to be pinned, photographed, and measured (body length, length and width of pronotum, length of elytron, and width of both elytra). We showed sexual dimorphism as males were larger than females in five out of six locations suggesting sex-role reversal. Differences in morphological parameters were also detected between locations, the smallest specimens were always from Banjaluka. The measured parameter salso shower geographical patterns, as there was an increase in body size on a gradient from south to north and on a gradient from east to west.
