Title:Activities for preschool children that involve color blending as means of expressing oneself through fine arts
Abstract:In this thesis, six activities are presented for gradual introduction of color blending to pre-school children. Activities were carried in pre-school classes of children aged 5 to 6. The activities were aimed at lightening and darkening primary colors, blending primary and complementary colors, blending black and white, as well as blending primary colors with black and white. In the theoretical part, development of a child between the ages of five and six years is introduced. Art techniques are presented in much detail. Recommendations are also provided as to what size of paper should be used to paint and how art corners, classrooms and workshops should be equipped in accordance with the highest quality standards. Furthermore, the most relevant approaches to teaching art according to the curriculum. The empirical part deals with appropriate color mixing activities. It has been discovered, which palettes the children should use for blending colors, what the size of paper should be based on the motif and shape of the work. It turns out that it is better for the pallets to have compartments or to use sufficiently large pots instead of palettes. It is appropriate to offer children a greater number of light colors than darker ones at the beginning of the activity. The most important thing is that the tempera paints are of good quality.
