Abstract:V zaključnem delu bomo opisali nastanek in začetek širjenja bolezni Covid-19, ki jo povzroča virus SARS-CoV-2. Duševne motnje, s katerimi se v policiji najpogosteje srečujejo so stres, posttravmatska motnja, izgorelost in depresija.

Title:The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of police officers
Abstract:The thesis will describe the emergence and spread of Covid-19 disease, caused by socalled SARS-CoV-2. We will explore the symptoms, how the virus spread, and the consequences we are still facing today. With the declaration of a Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, several restrictive measures have been put into effect due to the rapid spread of infections around the world. Most often, this involved quarantine or isolation, the use of a protective mask, and disinfectant. Those and many others have been used by countries to limit the number of people infected, but have also harmed people, especially their wellbeing and mental health. Among the most brutally hit during the pandemic were workers who, despite everything, were on the front lines doing their jobs. That also includes police officers, who were given additional tasks. These have added to an already risky and unpredictable profession, leading to more mental health problems among employees. To function, develop, and interact normally in the world, it is our mental health that enables us to do so. We will focus on the mental health of police officers and how it has changed during the Covid-19 pandemic. The virus has brought changes to their work environment. We will describe what has been affected by it and how it has affected their mental health. The mental disorders most commonly encountered by the police are stress, post-traumatic stress disorder, burnout, and depression. As the mental health of employees deteriorated during the spread of the virus, we will focus on how the Covid-19 pandemic contributed to the overall changes.
