V prvem delu smo opravili pregled obstoječe literature s področja pojava prezentizma v delovnem okolju. V drugem delu smo izvedli raziskavo z anonimnim anketiranjem zaposlenih.

Title:Phenomenon of presenteeism in the workplace
Abstract:The phenomenon of presenteeism is a relatively new and unknown concept that emerges in the workplace and is recognized as the behaviour of employees that are physically present at work but mentally absent due to state of illness. Presenteeism causes productivity loss and lowers work efficiency, moreover, its presence amongst employees is understood as an indicator of distress in the workplace due to unsatisfactory working conditions or relationships. It is an important factor to be considered in organisations because of its high relation to productivity abilities and wellbeing of employees. Consequently, the presence of presenteeism in the workplace represents high organisational costs. The aim of this master’s thesis was to investigate the frequency of presenteeism amongst employees in the workplace, moreover, determine the most common causes for its presence and consequences that emerge due to its occurrents. Firstly, we conducted a literature review of existing knowledge on the phenomenon of presenteeism in the workplace. Secondly, we conducted our own research using an anonymous online questionnaire made with the digital tool 1ka that was distributed to employees via different social media platforms. After research end, we arranged the collected data and formed research hypothesis which we verified using the statistical analysis program SPSS. Based on our research analysis results, our conclusion is that presenteeism is a frequent phenomenon in the workplace and its consequences for the health and wellbeing of employees are in most cases harmful. The most common causes for its presence are teamwork co-dependency, employees being overworked, loyalty to employers or customers, and the expectations in the workplace. If we consider the current situation on the labour market with continuous rapid changes and heavily aggravated working conditions, the organizational investments towards mitigation and elimination of presenteeism will be of the upmost importance in the future due to its harmful nature for employee wellbeing as well as for organisational costs.
