Title:Collaborative and outdoor learning in the subjects of nature study and social studies
Abstract:Traditional teaching, which is based on the passive obtainment of information and the lack of mutual interactions, is recommended to be replaced with active participation, critical thinking and independent building of knowledge with pupils. In the master’s degree, we have focused on the use of active forms of collaborative and outdoor learning as effective learning approaches. The main purpose of the master’s degree was to form preparations for outdoor learning, in connection to collaborative learning, from 1st to 5th grade. As part of the task, we then carried out the preparation for the 1st grade. We evaluated it with the children’s and the teacher’s opinion, and added our own observations. The implementation results have showed that collaborative and outdoor learning has positively effected the pupils’ motivation, development of their socials skills, increase of enthusiasm, deeper understanding and use of learning material.
