Abstract:V sklopu te naloge smo zbrali podatke o 32 funkcionalnih in ekoloških znakih 159 vrst in podvrst palearktičnih voluharic iz poddružine Arvicolinae. Zanimali so nas funkcionalni znaki: dolžina telesa, dolžina repa, dolžina zadnjega stopala, masa, dolžina lobanje, povprečno trajanje brejosti, povprečno število legel v letu, povprečno število mladičev v leglu. Spremljali smo tudi naslednje ekološke znake: habitat, čas aktivnosti v dnevu, socialna struktura, nadmorska višina areala, velikost območja pojavljanja, mikrohabitat in vrsta prehrane. Podatke smo uredili in izvedli frekvenčno analizo posameznih znakov. Izračunali smo dve cenilki funkcionalne diverzitete: funkcionalno bogastvo in funkcionalno razpršenost.

Title:Functional traits of palearctic voles and lemmings (Arvicolinae)
Abstract:In this thesis, we compiled data on 32 funcional traits of 159 species and subspecies of palearctic voles and lemmings from the subfamily Arvicolinae. Our research focused on the following functional traits: body length, tail length, hind foot length, body mass, skull length, average gestational time, average number of litters per year, average number of offspring per litter. We also compiled data on ecological traits: habitat, daily activity patterns, social structure, areal altitude, areal size, microhabitat and diet. We performed frequency analyses for each trait. The data for morphometric traits is available for about 80% of species and subspecies. Data on ecological traits is lacking, especially for habitat type and diet, more data is available on areal altitude and size. The distribution of morphometric traits is close to normal, with a long tail to the right, meaning most species are small, with some exceptions growing larger. Areal size distribution is asymmetric, with almost one fifth of species being present on more than one million square kilometres, and a very small number of species being endemic and present on fewer than one thousand square kilometres. Altitude ditribution leans left, meaning more species live on lower altitudes. We demonstrated the use of functional traits in real analyses using multifunctional analysis methods. We split the Palearctic region into ecoregions and placed each species into its respective ecoregion based on presence data. We calculated two components of functional diversity: functional richness and functional dispersion. Functional richness of voles end lemmings is highest in the humid temperate zone, and lowest in the polar, humid subtropical and temperate cold zone. Functional dispersion is highest in the semiarid subtropical zone and lowest in arid tropical and subtropical zones.
