Title:Domestic violence during the COVID-19 epidemic
Abstract:Domestic violence, as described in this paper, is any kind of violence, let that be physical, verbal, sexual, economic or abandonment and stalking of a family member. Family is supposed to be a safe haven for all the members, but it is not always so. In the first part we more precisely focused on legal definitions of domestic violence and the different kinds of it. Because we are researching any deviations of frequency of occurance and reports, let that be a rise or a fall, during the epidemic of the new corona virus COVID-19. We briefly went over the response and knowledge of Slovenian society to domestic violence and we compared those to the statistical data from abroad, mostly European countries and the United States of America – a comparison from the start of the epidemic and the same period from the previous years. In the second, empirical part of the paper we focused on research of society and how they think the epidemic influenced domestic violence. Important source in the research were the statistical data from police and telephone help lines to the victims of violence.
