Title:Depression in adolescents with acne
Abstract:Introduction: Depression is the most common mental disorder in adolescence. However, due to its omnipresence and minimal impact on physical functioning, doctors often dismiss acne as a temporary cosmetic affliction. It is often neglected, so not enough attention is paid to the impact of acne on the mental state of adolescents. The purpose of the final work is to investigate the impact of acne on the occurrence of depression in adolescents. Methods: A literature review was conducted in English from 2012 to 2022. The search was conducted in the following databases: CINAHL, PubMed, Cochrane Library and Science Direct. The synthesis of the data was shown with the help of content analysis. Results: Compared to other mental illnesses, depression is significantly more prevalent in adolescents with acne. The female gender is more susceptible and has a more severe form of depression. Likewise, a more severe form of acne means a more substantial factor for depression. The quality of life of adolescents is significantly affected, and medical personnel play a significant role in the recognition and treatment of these adolescents. Discussion and conclusion: Using questionnaires to assess the psychosocial impact of acne on the adolescent may help guide dermatologists' treatment goals. Developing a questionnaire that can isolate acne's psychosocial effects and help identify at-risk adolescents in busy clinics is necessary.
