Title:The impact of covid pandemic on the logistics sector
Abstract:Global supply networks have come under the spotlight as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with unpredictable repercussions. The lethal COVID-19 virus outbreak has had a significant negative impact on the economy in addition to taking lives. Production and logistics services were temporarily halted or limited as a result of the rigorous lockdown, which had an impact on the demand and supply of numerous products. According to recent research, the financial crisis had a negative impact on the logistics sector. The objective of the master's thesis is to investigate the influence of the 2008 financial crisis and COVID-19 on logistics. The main activities of the logistics companies we chose for comparison between the aforementioned crises are primarily the movement, storage, and flow of goods. The logistics sector represents one of the most important links to the rest of the world. Risk has long been an important aspect of logistics. Now that COVID-19 has affected the whole world, this is particularly noticeable. The COVID-19 crisis, like the financial crisis, has brought new challenges for companies. Although there are numerous similarities between the two crises mentioned, the financial crisis had a considerably more significant impact on logistics. The COVID-19 pandemic and the global financial crisis appear to be similar, yet each has introduced additional uncertainty. In both instances, as people lost their jobs and corporate earnings dropped drastically, the stock market saw a decline in GDP on a global scale, as did tax revenues. International trade and transportation have been affected since the beginning of 2020 as an increasing number of nations have imposed travel restrictions, border closures, and other limitations as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. In the master's thesis, we will analyse the indicators of selected logistics companies in Europe and Slovenia. We will also examine the transportation market, using Slovenia as an example. It is easier to study the performance of companies over a certain period of time using indicators. For the master's thesis, we compared the corona crisis of 2019 and 2020 to the 2008 and 2009 financial crisis periods. In a sample spanning two years, we compared the aforementioned crises. For ease of comparison, we evaluated the situation at six different logistics companies.
