Abstract:Pandemija COVID-19 je družine privedla do spremenjenih okoliščin in do nekaterih izzivov, kot so izguba službe zaradi nastalih razmer, povečana socialna izključenost, socialna negotovost, pomanjkanje prostega časa, usklajevanje službe od doma in šolanja na daljavo, težav pri šolskem delu otrok na daljavo ...

Title:Parents' views on distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic
Abstract:During COVID-19 pandemic families were faced with changed circumstances as well some challenges such as job loss, increased social exclusion, social uncertainty, the shortage of free time, children's difficulties concerning school work as well as balancing parents’ remote work and children’s distance learning. These circumstances have had an impact on parents' mental health. The aim of this thesis is to examine parents' views on distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. To be precise, it studies information technology at home, the amount of parents’ involvement in their children's school work and their competence regarding the use of technology, the amount of their communication with the teacher, both the positive and negative factors for family during distance learning period and possible consequences that arose within the family. The thesis researches the possibility of differences concerning both children's age and number, parents' marital and employment status and their involvement in household chores. The empirical research included a survey carried out by 669 parents of primary school children attending the first and second educational cycle from Slovenia. The results of the analysis showed that parents, according to their own statements, managed distance learning. However, they stated that their children needed more help with school work compared to the period prior to pandemic. Parents experienced high stress when having to balance family and job related obligations. According to parents, the most positive consequence of this situation was active free time spent together with their children.
