Abstract:
Izvedli smo vsebinsko analizo in sintezo vključenih raziskav.

Title:
Influence of Animal-Assisted Therapy in Persons with Acquired Brain Injury
Abstract:
Introduction: Animal-assisted therapy is a form of therapy that is carried out independently or in the context of other therapies, e.g. psychotherapy or occupational therapy. For people with acquired brain injury, it can also be included as part of neurorehabilitation, where different animals can be included. A systematic literature review was conducted to find out the influence of animal-assisted therapy on people with acquired brain injury. Methods: We used a systematic approach to review, analyse, and synthesise relevant literature. The literature search was conducted in the following databases: CINAHL, PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Taylor & Francis, and Google Scholar. The search process was present in the flow chart according to PRISMA recommendations. We used content analysis to synthesise the data. Results: We found that animal-assisted therapy positively affects people with acquired brain injury. It increases their motivation for rehabilitation and improves communication and mood. Hippotherapy also improves walking speed and balance, as well as lung function. Discussion and conclusion: The animal has a significant influence on the outcome of the treatment itself, as it increases the patient's motivation for treatment and rehabilitation, and during the therapy itself, it improves their mood and promotes positive feelings. It would make sense to investigate the effects of animal therapy in other areas of nursing and include it as part of the holistic treatment of the patient.
