Title:The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the mental health of prisoners
Abstract:In the thesis, we will describe the origin, symptoms, spread and consequences of Covid-19 disease, caused by the so-called SARS-CoV-2 virus. The virus has not been known in history, but we have only been facing it since 2019. From then on, the pandemic Covid-19 was declared and was the most frequent topic of discussion in countries around the world. The rapid spread of infections among people has led the World Health Organization to help all countries respond effectively to the prevailing virus. Countries have fought the pandemic by putting in place appropriate epidemiological measures to prevent the spread of infections, which have come at a cost. Public health measures such as social isolation have led to confusion and insecurity, emotional isolation and negative effects on people's mental health. As well as the outside world, the Covid-19 pandemic has also affected penitentiaries. The spread of the new virus has also had a huge negative impact on the mental health of prisoners. Mental health is defined as the most important means of achieving normal social interactions or relationships between people, including individual satisfaction, self-esteem and normal human functioning. It has been discussed since history, but in a slightly less technical way than today. We will focus on the description and change in mental health of prisoners during the Covid-19 pandemic and describe the mental disorders faced by individuals in prison. The mental disorders most commonly experienced by prisoners are depression, anxiety disorders, acute and post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, and eating and eating disorders. Given the perceived changes in prisoners' mental health, we will focus on how the Covid-19 pandemic contributed to this.
