Abstract:V magistrskem delu so raziskane spremembe v duševnem zdravju starejših v času pandemije bolezni covid-19.

Title:Mental health of the elderly during the COVID-19 pandemic
Abstract:The master thesis examines changes in mental health of the elderly during the COVID-19 pandemic. The terms COVID-19 pandemic, mental health, mental health of the elderly, depression and anxiety of the elderly, social crisis and extreme event are defined. Using a descriptive method, specifically quantitative analysis of sources and literature, a review of existing sources and literature was conducted with a focus on research that examines changes in the mental health of the elderly during the pandemic. The mental health of the elderly generally deteriorated during the COVID-19 pandemic. An analysis of data concerning mental health of the elderly during the pandemic refers to the year 2020; the research was conducted by using causal non-experimental method of research (i.e., second analysis of data). The data was collected in international, longitudinal, and representative survey called The Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe. By analysing several variables, we found that the mental health of the elderly (i.e., anxiety, depression, sleep problems, loneliness) deteriorated during the pandemic compared to the pre-pandemic period, while poorer mental health was also associated with fewer social contacts that the elderly had with their children, other relatives, friends, co workers, and neighbours.
