Abstract:

Title:
Violence against nursing staff
Abstract:
Based on previous research it is a fact that health work is an occupation that is the most exposed to workplace violence. Violent behavior can occur between coworkers or between a health care worker and a patient and it is a behavior that breaks the rules of safe coexistence and human rights. The aim of the thesis was to analyze violence concerning health care workers and the consequences. The results of a questionnaire from 2019 shows that the workers from primary, secondary of tertiary institutions do not differ based on violent behavior. More educated workers experience less violence than less educated health care workers. There is no difference in violence based on the size of the institution and health care workers experience different levels of violence. The most common were unrealistic expectations of patients, the least common was verbal violence. We conclude that health care workers need to be protected from the violence behavior, they need a safe space to work and violence needs to be reported. We suggest that further research is conducted about reporting violence in all institutions because it is unacceptable that violence is a part of heath care workers experience.
