Title:Sediment transport modelling in lake Ptuj
Abstract:Human activities can affect river processes. One of these processes is sediment transport. We can quantify our impact using a sediment transport model. In the following pages we present a one-dimensional and a two-dimensional sediment transport model, both made with the HEC-RAS program. Emphasis is put on the one-dimensional sediment transport model. For calibration we use the average increase of riverbed on four different locations. The sediment model was run for a period of one year with flows and stages from 2020. The model accurately predicts elevation of riverbed in the reservoir. In the upper reservoir region, all grains bigger than 0,064 mm settle. Smaller fractions settle closer to the dam or get flushed away. The model also predicts bigger sedimentation with flows higher than 600 m3/s. Our sediment model can be useful for the managers of lake Ptuj. It can serve as a tool for discovering intensive settlement areas and as means of determining a way of managing, least likely to cause riverbed elevation.
