Abstract:

Title:
The effect of stress on nurses in the treatment of patients with Sars-CoV-2 infection
Abstract:
Introduction: Stress in nurses working in wards with SARS-CoV-2 positive patients is an increasingly common topic of conversation, but is still not sufficiently highlighted and researched. Methods: In the theoretical part of the thesis we used the descriptive method of work, and in the empirical part we used the quantitative methodology, which derives from the philosophy of positivism. Data were obtained using questionnaires distributed to healthcare workers in Covid wards. We distributed 30 questionnaires, analyzed the data and graphically displayed it using Microsoft Excel. Results: We found out that working with Covid positive patients occasionally caused additional stress and discomfort to respondents, as most spent 5 hours or more in personal protective equipment. While working in the Covid department, 87 % experienced a stressful event, for which the most resuscitation was reported in a suddenly sent medical condition. 63 % of respondents notice negative signs of stress, which they repeatedly tried to get rid of by outdoor recreation and talking to family. Discussion and conclusion: Nurses in Covid wards undoubtedly experience stress that negatively affects their well-being. The stress of working with SARS-CoV-2 positive patients could be reduced by relieving employees, increasing the number of staff and by providing professional psychological assistance to employees.
