Title:Barriers in early detection of prostate cancer
Abstract:Introduction: Prostate cancer is a disease that poses a major health problem to the world. The number of prostate cancer sufferers has been increasing over the years. For successful preventive action and early detection of prostate cancer, it is important to identify obstacles that men face and not want to attend a preventive screening to detect prostate cancer. Methods: This paper is based on quantitative research methodology. We used a survey as an instrument for data collection in the empirical part, completed by 50 men. We also used descriptive statistics. Results: The results had showen that the main obstacle for men not to attend preventive programmes for early detection of prostate cancer is lack of information on how tests are performed, there is also a slight increase in the fear of unpleasant examination. The causes of not visiting a doctor arises from men`s personal belief on prostate cancer and preventive screening. Men are aware that early detection of prostate cancer improves the clinical outcome. Discussion and conclusion: With men amplifying interest in maintaining health and improving prostate cancer knowledge could help reducing the scale of prostate cancer disease over the years.
