Abstract:
Teoretična izhodišča: Vse pogosteje smo zaskrbljeni glede načina prehranjevanja otrok, saj so različne težave s hranjenjem vse pogostejše. Raziskovalna metodologija in metode: Uporabili smo kvantitativno metodologijo raziskovanja z anketnim vprašalnikom in pregledom rezultatov telesne mase in višine pri športnem testiranju.

Title:
Association between picky eating and body mass index of primary school students
Abstract:
Theoretical background: We are becoming increasingly concerned about children's diet as nutrition-related health problems are becoming more common. Although this is an extremely common problem, little has been done in Slovenia to address the issue of picky eating in children. It can occur very early in childhood and cause concern for parents and health care professionals, as it can cause children to start lagging behind in development, lose weight, stifle growth and personal development. Research methodology: We used a quantitative research methodology that consisted of a survey questionnaire and a review of body weight and height data from sports testing records. The research sample consisted of 132 students in the last triad of one of the Slovenian primary schools. The results were analyzed and visually presented using Microsoft Excel and SPSS. Results: The study showed that there is no statistically significant difference between picky eating and body mass index. It surprised us that children correctly judged themselves to be picky, which we confirmed after analyzing the questionnaires. After analyzing eating patterns, we found out that girls prefer to eat healthy foods, while boys prefer unhealthy fast food. Conclusion: There is a correlation between body mass index and selective eating. It's very important that we can identify picky eating children, pay attention to their growth and development, and advise them to eat healthy if we notice that the child is not getting enough nutrients.
