Abstract:V magistrski nalogi sem analizirala variabilnost dorzalne strani lobanje navadnega polha (Glis glis). Na dorzalni strani lobanje sem določila 14 oslonilnih točk in z metodami geometrijske morfometrije ovrednotili variabilnost v velikosti lobanje in v obliki lobanje.

Title:Spatial and temporal variability of the fat dormouse (Glis glis) skull
Abstract:The purpose of the master thesis was to determine the variability in skull of the fat dormouse. The research was focused on the differences between sexes, age groups as well as on geographic and temporal variability. The sample contained 445 skulls of dormice, caught in a few areas across Slovenia. The analysis was carried out on photos of the dorsal side of the skull, with 14 ground control points determined. The methods of geometric morphometry were then used. The sample for each analysis was separated according to gender, age group, area and the year the animal was caught. Based on the results, there are no gender-based differences in the skull of dormice. The differences do appear when comparing different age groups, as the skull is growing and changing during the period of ontogenetic development. The centroid size of the skull is influenced by temporal, but not by spatial variability. However, the shape is affected by both. It is possible that the temporal variability of the dorsal side of the skull (size and shape) is the consequence of the availability of the primary food source (beech nuts), which varies heavily from year to year. The spatial variability of the skull shape is most likely influenced by local environmental factors, such as phenotypic adaptation to local climate.
