Abstract:

Title:
Interventions of operating room nurse for ensuring patient safety
Abstract:
Introduction: The operating room nurse is involved in all stages of the patient's operative care and is responsible for the implementation of patient-centered integrated care. Because in the operating environment the possibility of errors is extremely high, ensuring patient safety is one of the key tasks of an operating room nurse. She is responsible for their implementation during the entire operation. Therefore, the purpose of our research was to present the interventions of operating nurses to ensure patient safety. Methods: In our research, we used the descriptive method of work. We searched literature in various databases (PubMed, CINAHL, SAGE and Cochrane). In purpose to find the appropriate literature, we also used inclusion and exclusion criteria. We included articles in English and Slovene language, qualitative, quantitative, or mixed-method studies, descriptive studies, and studies that were available and published between January 2009 and July 2019. Results: One of the most important interventions which affects patient safety was teamwork, communication and management, and so is the prevention of infections, that is to ensure asepticity and the use and knowledge of the appropriate practice. Ensuring patient safety was mostly due to the adequate transfer of information, proper documentation and the implementation of one task at the time, to ensure work concentration. Discussion and conclusion: An operating room nurse is responsible for a range of interventions that need to be carried out consistently. These interventions take place throughout the entire operation and can significantly affect patient safety.
