Title:Gender Pay Gap in Slovenia, Germany, Austria and Croatia
Abstract:In the following diploma we discuss the wage differences, but the main topic is the gender pay gap. We are especially interested in the main factors of wage differences between men and women and whether women in the labor market are still treated as economically less valuable. Employers can discriminate against the female part of the population because they think that women are incapable of performing certain jobs. If there is no discrimination on the labor market, the reasons for wage differentials need to be sought elsewhere. Gender equality in the labor market is important for all the individuals as well as for the whole society, because we can achieve higher efficiency levels in the market if we treat both genders equally. This diploma is divided into four sections. In the first part we present the main characteristics of the labor market and its peculiarities. The second part involves explanations about the factors of wage differences. In the third part follows the analysis of data for Slovenia, Germany, Austria and Croatia and in the last one we analyze this data in more detail and we look for the reasons for the current situation with the help of selected studies. Through the analysis we come to the conclusion that the gender pay gap is quite high in Germany and Austria, but in Slovenia and Croatia it is lower than the European average. We present various reasons for this throughout the work.
