Title:The wage differentials between women and men in osrednjeslovenska and pomurska statistical region
Abstract:A wage is a regular payment paid by an employer to an employee in exchange for work carried out and is a part of the costs involved in running the business. The fact is that the wage has always been a sensitive issue from social, motivational and political aspects. The ongoing and always interesting question is whether men earn more than women do and if the answer is positive, why. In the theoretical part of this master thesis, we covered some of the areas that we consider important in examining the gender wage gap. We went over the theory of wages, history of wages, the situation of women in the past and in the present, human resources management and its functions, discrimination, professional segregation and equality between women and men in the labour market. To study the gender wage gap, we selected two Slovenian statistical regions, which, in our view, are the most diverse, namely the Osrednjeslovenska and Pomurska region. In the empirical part of the master thesis, we compared men´s and women´s wages in selected regions between 2015¬¬¬-2017 by using already existing data that we obtained from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia website. The aim of the master thesis was to determine whether there is a wage difference between women and men in these regions. In our research, significant variables were also education, age, and the level of the average gross wage.
Keywords:wage, wage differentials, discrimination, gender, human resource management, Pomurska statistical region, Osrednjeslovenska statistical region.
