Abstract:
Pomemben dejavnik trajnostne gradnje je razvoj trajnostnih materialov, katerih proizvodnja mora biti ekološko kakovostna, kar pomeni, da mora imeti čim manjši vpliv na ekosistem in zalogo neobnovljivih naravnih virov. Tak primer gradbenih materialov so kompoziti, utrjeni z naravnimi vlakni, kot so vlakna industrijske konoplje. Diplomsko delo predstavi industrijsko konopljo kot rastlino, opisuje njeno pridelavo in predelavo, opredeljuje kompozite, njihovo sestavo in preučuje povezovalne mehanizme, ki delujejo med matrico in vlakni, od katerih so odvisne mehanske lastnosti kompozitov. Kakovost teh povezav lahko izboljšajo različni postopki in metode obdelave konopljinih vlaken. V eksperimentalnem delu smo v laboratoriju pripravili tri tipe preizkusnih vzorcev.

Title:
Effect of surface modification on mechanical properties of hemp fibers
Abstract:
Sustainable construction materials are an important aspect of sustainable building. The main goal of sustainable building is to minimize adverse environmental impacts and reduce the consumption of non-renewable resources. An example of such materials are composites that are reinforced with natural fibers, like hemp fibers. The thesis addresses industrial hemp, its origin, structure, cultivation and processing. Further it defines composites, its strcture and the fiber-matrix interface mechanisms, that are essential for good mechanical properties of composites. Different treatments of hemp fibers can be used to modify the surface of the fibers and thereby enhance adhesion between the fibers and the matrix. In the experimental part of the paper the main goal is to investigate the mechanical properties of treated and untreated hemp fibers. The preparation of three different types of testing samples is described. Using two chemical treatments we modified the surface of hemp fibers and used an universal material testing machine for tensile tests. Based on the results of tensile tests we compared tensile characteristics of treated and untreated hemp fibers and determined the effect of surface modification on mechanical properties.
