Abstract:Magistrsko delo zajema računalniški pristop k modeliranju procesa oblaganja tablet.

Title:Numerical analysis of tablet coating process using coupled CFD-DEM simulation
Abstract:Master's thesis describes a computational approach in tablet coating process modeling. Particle interactions are simulated using discrete element method (DEM). Fluid flow inside the observed zone is simulated using computational fluid dynamics methods (CFD). The goal of this thesis is to realize a coupled CFD-DEM simulation, analyze the effect of input parameters on simulation results and to analyze the influence of process parameters on the efficiency of tablet coating process. In order to analyze the results, a total of 9 DEM and 8 coupled CFD-DEM simulations were performed. Results of simulations showed that air and its properties can have a significant impact on the efficiency of the process, where higher inlet air velocities caused a change in spray shape and increased the tablet heating rate. This led to the conclusion that the role of air is crucial in a tablet coating process, and that coupled simulation approach is necessary for an accurate description of such processes.
