Title:Teachers about creativity in social studies
Abstract:In master's thesis that consists of the theoretical and empirical part, we researched the importance of developing creativity, and the views of teachers of fourth and fifth grades, on the development of creativity, in lessons of social studies. A total of 251 teachers in Slovenian schools, that taught the subject of social studies during the school year 2016/2017, participated in this study. In the theoretical part, we defined the term creativity, its meaning, and factors that influence its development. Briefly, we outlined the views of modern school counsellors on creativity in school. In the empirical part we checked, with the use of questionnaires, how is creativity developed in lessons of social sciences in our schools. We were interested in attitudes of teachers towards creativity, methods, and forms of work that they develop it with, and to what amount are the textbooks helpful. We came to the conclusion, that most of the teachers believe creativity can be developed with each individual, and it develops in the lessons of social studies. Research disclosed, that older teachers, with more than 20 years of service, more often develop creativity in natural science lessons and feel more competent and confident in comparison to younger colleagues. Most of the teachers also believe that textbook sets are only partially helpful. Furthermore, they all wish to have more training courses about the development of creative thinking.
Keywords:creativity, creative thinking, social studies, teachers, promotion of creativity.
