Abstract:
Magistrsko delo obravnava prevajanje ameriške homoerotične poezije v slovenščino. Namen magistrskega dela je ugotoviti, ali se pri prevajanju ameriške homoerotične poezije iz angleškega jezika v slovenski jezik ohranijo homoerotični elementi. Homoerotična oz. queer poezija je tista poezija, ki vsebuje homoerotične elemente in zanjo obstajajo tudi drugi dokazi o homoerotičnosti. Prevajanje homoerotične poezije se izkaže za posebno zahtevno nalogo zaradi polivalentnosti in kompleksnosti homoerotičnih elementov, zato se naloga osredini na preverjanje ohranitve homoerotičnih elementov pri prevodu iz angleškega jezika v slovenski jezik. V nalogi je predstavljena analiza prevodov sledečih homoerotičnih elementov v poeziji: erotična srečanja med osebami istega spola, homosocialne vezi, gejevski ali lezbični znaki/simboli, grešna spolnost, preobrnjena raba spola/istospolni dvojniki. V analizi uporabljeni primeri so vzeti iz pesmi pesnikov in pesnic, ki so bili izbrani po naslednjih merilih: njihova dela so del ameriškega literarnega kanona, njihove pesmi so bile prevedene v slovenščino, v njihovih pesmih najdemo homoerotične elemente. Magistrsko delo tako analizira prevode del naslednjih kronološko razvrščenih avtorjev: Walta Whitmana, Emily Dickinson, Allena Ginsberga, Audre Lorde, Adrienne Rich in Timothya Lia. Po napravljeni analizi je moč opaziti, da se homoerotični elementi pri prevodu iz angleščine v slovenščino večinsko ohranijo, slovenski prevajalci obravnavanih ameriških homoerotičnih pesmi pa so se posledično izkazali kot kompetentni prevajanja na tem področju

Title:
Translating american homoerotic poetry into slovene - Whitman to Liu
Abstract:
This Master's Thesis discusses the translation of American homoerotic poetry into Slovene. It aims to establish whether homoerotic elements in American homoerotic poetry are preserved in their Slovene translations. Homoerotic or queer poetry is characterized by the presence of homoerotic elements, and additional evidence proving that the poetry is homoerotic. Translating homoerotic poetry can be especially demanding due to the complexity and polysemy of homoerotic elements, which is why this thesis examines the preservation of homoerotic elements when translating poetry from English to Slovene. Therefore, an analysis of the translations of the following homoerotic elements in poetry is conducted: erotic encounters between same-sex persons, homo-social bonds, gay or lesbian signs/symbols, sinful sexuality, gender subversion/gender doubles. The analysis entails examples taken from the poems of poets, chosen on the basis of the following criteria: their works form a part of the American literary canon, their poems were translated into Slovene, and their poems contain homoerotic elements. This Master’s Thesis thus analyses the translations of the following chronologically ordered authors: Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, Allen Ginsberg, Audre Lorde, Adrienne Rich, and Timothy Liu. The analysis demonstrates that most homoerotic elements present in the inspected American poetry are preserved in the Slovene translation. The majority of the Slovene translators of the American homoerotic poetry examined in this thesis thus proved to be competent in this area of translation.
