Abstract:
Diplomsko delo obravnava razvoj športnega izrazja v slovenščini, in sicer proučuje športno izrazje iz glasila Slovenski sokol z začetka 20. stoletja. Slovenski sokoli so usposobili prve generacije visoko izobraženih športnih učiteljev in zapustili prvo slovensko strokovno literaturo o telovadbi.

Title:
THE DEVELOPMENT OF SPORTS TERMINOLOGY IN THE SLOVENIAN LANGUAGE
Abstract:
Several questions about sports terminology, which is a part of sports science, occur worldwide today. Sports disciplines are developing very quickly, also sports terminology, which updates constantly. The previous "body culture" was renamed into "sports culture", that is "sport". Different terms are used today, such as physical education, Faculty of sports, sports clubs, etc. The fact, that professional disagreements occur also in naming sports content, shows that this art is still developing today (Kristan 2000: 54). At the same time the development of sports terminology (especially abroad) presents a challenge for Slovenian language. Many individuals take an interest with sports terminology, but we do not have a formal research unit, which would research the sports terminology. So are we witnessing indefinite and disunited expressing in both, field of sports and Slovenian language in general. The main problem is terminological vagueness and unsystematic care of professional terminology. In my diploma work I dealt with the sports terminology in the newsletter Slovenski sokol from the beginning of the twentieth century, its development, changing and preservation until today (for example: some meanings change – they can mean something completely different or do not even exist anymore, as they have been replaced with others).
