Abstract:V diplomskem delu smo predstavili Downov sindrom, opisali smo najpogostejše telesne, vedenjske in zdravstvene značilnosti Downovega sindroma. V okviru konceptualnega modela Virginie Henderson smo opisali 14. osnovnih življenjskih aktivnosti in proces zdravstvene nege. Z raziskavo in načrtovanjem procesa zdravstvene nege smo želeli ugotoviti, pri katerih osnovnih življenjskih aktivnostih potrebuje predšolski otrok z Downovim sindromom pomoč staršev oziroma svojcev.

Title:NURSING CARE OF PRESCHOOL CHILDREN WITH DOWN SYNDROME
Abstract:This graduation thesis introduces Down syndrome, we described the most common physical, behavioral and health characteristics of the Down syndrome. Within the conceptual model of Virginia Henderson, we described 14 basic life activities and the process of heaalth care. With this study and planning process of health care, we wanted to find out with in which basic life activities preschool children with Down syndrome need help from their parents or relatives. Research methodology: The empirical part of the thesis is based on the qualitatve method of research. We conducted a case study. Information was obtained by partially structured interview of parents and observation of the sick girl. Results: Based on the case study, we found out that parents have a great role in the development of a preschool child with Down syndrome. The girl needs help or supervision of parents in the following life activities: eating and drinking, eliminating body waste, moving and maintaining desirable positions, dressing and undressing, keeping the body clean and well groomed, avoiding dangers in the environment, communicating and learning, playing or participating in various forms of recreation. We found out that parents must be actively involved in the process of health care according to the girl's potential. Discussion and conclusion: In the nursing care, interaction between parents and all health care workers is very important. It is the only way to ensure a preschool child with Down syndrome a qualitative and above all an individual nursing care. This helps them at acquiring basic life activities towards bigger autonomy.
