Abstract:Plemenite kovine so redki kovinski kemični elementi, ki jih najdemo v naravi in imajo visoko ekonomsko vrednost. Investicijsko usmerjena sta predvsem zlato in srebro, medtem ko platina in paladij nekoliko manj in sta bolj znana kot industrijski kovini.

Title:PRECIOUS METALS AS A FORM OF INVESTMENT
Abstract:Precious metals are rare metallic chemical elements that are found in nature and have a high economic value. Because of their special properties they are widely used in industry, and their flexibility, softness, and shine are also the reasons why they are used to make jewellery. Only a decade ago, their use for investment purposes was not as widespread as it is today. They are becoming an important part of the investment portfolio, and their investment demand has been evident in the period of the global financial crisis. Throughout the history, they have proven to be an excellent store of value, protection of wealth, hedge against inflation, and that they do well especially in difficult economic times when confidence in the financial system or paper currency falls. Gold and silver are more investment focused than platinum and palladium, which are more known as industrial metals. Investment in precious metals offers us many advantages in the form of portfolio diversification, privacy, liquidity, and protection of wealth in uncertain conditions, but on the other hand, there are also some disadvantages such as the storage of physical metal, substantial price volatility, speculative actions, misleading information, and they do not have fixed income. There are lot of different ways for investment in precious metals, for example you can buy them in a physical form, which is the most common way, or in a paper form, which is backed by physical metals, such as ETF funds, certificates, accounts, derivatives. Each form has certain advantages and disadvantages, and the decision in which form an individual wants to invest is based on personal goals, views, and experience. Paper forms open up greater opportunity for speculation. Precious metals prices are listed on exchange and they are changing every minute. There are many factors that affect the prices of precious metals, namely supply and demand, inflation, general economic situation, the US dollar, activities of central banks, and the interest rate. There is a certain correlation between them and the prices of precious metals. So the graduation thesis consists of two parts. The first part describes the general characteristics of the precious metals, while the second part is focused on the presentation of the precious metals as one of the investment opportunities.
