Abstract:

Title:
THE USE OF BIOMETRIC VERIFICATION METHODS AT THE ENTRY AND PRESENCE CONTROL
Abstract:
The thesis deals with the use of biometric methods of access identity check and time attendance control in a fast-growing company. The use of biometrics is comprehensively regulated by various legal acts, which reduces the risk of misuse of personal data and at the same time significantly complicates the use of biometric methods. In the Republic of Slovenia, the use of biometrics is only possible according to the principle of proportionality, which means appropriate in relation to the purpose with the prior approval of the Information Commissioner. A company has to define security features with its own security policy especially in three key segments of provision of security in an organization; these are building safety, employee safety and data security. The analysis of the situation in the company established that the existing access control system operates properly; however, there are certain risks present due to inconsistent handling of identification cards. Due to the ease of use and the reliability of the method, fingerprint readers are most commonly used in access control systems. A practical test of fingerprint readers also confirmed the appropriateness of such systems. In the thesis, all required tests were performed with different fingerprint readers acquired from the providers of biometric access and time attendance control systems on the Slovenian market, and test results confirmed our predictions regarding the practicability and reliability of systems, which use biometric methods for their operation.
