Abstract:Diplomska naloga obravnava strah pred kriminaliteto in raziskuje občutek varnosti ter strah pred kriminaliteto občanov Mestne občine Velenje. Preko deskriptivne metode so raziskani temeljni pojmi in teoretična opredelitev strahu pred kriminaliteto, ki vključuje dejavnike strahu pred kriminaliteto ter preprečevanje kriminalitete. Narejeni so povzetki raziskav na področju Združenih držav Amerike, Velike Britanije, Avstrije, Avstralije, Karibskega otočja in Latinske Amerike. Povzete so že obstoječe raziskave v Sloveniji, in sicer za področje Ljubljane, občine Dobrovnik in občine Trbovlje. Predstavljena je Mestna občina Velenje, kjer je potekala raziskava. V empiričnem delu je predstavljena analiza strahu pred kriminaliteto v Mestni občini Velenje. Uporabljena je bila kvalitativna metoda raziskovanja, pri čemer so bili opravljeni intervjuju s petnajstimi občani in enim članom Sosveta za varnost občanov in občank. Ugotovljeno je, da se počutijo varne in da na njihovo oceno varnosti vplivata spol in starost.

Title:CITIZENS' PERCEPTIONS OF SECURITY IN MUNICIPALITY OF VELENJE
Abstract:The thesis deals with the fear of crime and explores the citizen’ perception of security in Municipality of Velenje. Basic concepts and theoretical definition of fear of crime was explored, which includes factors of fear of crime and crime prevention. Summaries of researches on a similar topic in the United States and Great Britain, Austria, Australia, the Caribbean and Latin America were made as well as summaries of already existing researches in Slovenia, namely in the area of Ljubljana, the Municipality of Dobrovnik and Municipality of Trbovlje. The Municipality of Velenje, where the study took place was presented. The analysis of fear of crime in Municipality Velenje is introduced within empirical work. Qualitative research method, where we conducted interviews with fifteen citizens, was used. It was found out that they feel safe and that gender and age influences on their assessment of safety.
