Title:THE IMPACT OF WEB ON TRAVELERS’ VACCINATION DECISIONS
Abstract:The aim of the thesis was to find out how travelers are informed before travel and the use of modern information resources to search travel health information for safe travels. We explored domestic and foreign web sites on travel medicine and reviewed literature that contains health advice for safe and healthy traveling. We presented information technology used for informing the public on travel health and conducted a survey among visitors of the travel clinics for travelers at NIJZ. The aim of the survey was to establish how information technology is used to get information on travel health. A total of 202 travelers participated, aged between 20 and 71; the mean age was 34,9 years. The survey was conducted in travel clinics at NIJZ across Slovenia. Majority of passengers (65,8 %) who travelled to high risk regions had education higher than high school. More than half (58,7 %) searched information on travel health through different internet pages and more than half commented that there is not enough quality information about travel health. We established that travelers need to be better informed and have more confidence in the official web sites. 80 % of travelers stated that they would use a mobile application to find information on travel health if there would be one. Internet and social media play an important role in providing and spreading information about travel health. All institutions and health care workers who provide information for travelers should be aware of the importance of travel health promotion.
