Abstract:

Title:
THE MEANING AND ROLE OF RUDOLF STEINER`S TRANSLATIONS INTO SLOVENIAN LANGUAGE
Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to show what is the intention of the translations of literary works by the founder of modern spiritual science or anthroposophy, philosopher and thinker Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) from German to Slovenian language and what kind of challenges the translator has to face while translating that kind of professional texts. Steiner’s thinking and creative activities were very advanced for that time and that is also the reason we received his translations as late as in 1991 when Slovenia gained independence. Before that, Slovenian nation was occupied with questions of its own identity and was not ready for Steiner’s explanations about spiritual worlds. Steiner was generally not very popular in our press. According to Peršič (2015), Steiner literally vanished for scientific movement in 1902 after he started to lecture in public and write about so-called esoteric content and after he took over the leadership of the German section of the Theosophical Society. With the Slovenian translations of Steiner’s works after 1991 practices were developed which originated from his anthroposophical teachings, among the most important ones were Waldorf education, biodynamic agriculture and anthroposophical medicine. Translating of Steiner’s works is a special challenge for translators because of the special language and specific terminology which is described by Burkart (2003) as a living language. As stated by Burkart, this is a good challenge which is in compliance with Steiner’s intention and offers individuals to evolve, to strengthen their own mental abilities and to create a professional terminology.
