Abstract:
Drevesa smo tri dni kasneje načrtno izpostavili osmerozobemu smrekovemu lubadarju [Ips typographus L. (Col., Scolytidae)], z namenom proučiti vpliv nanosa SK na intenzivnost kolonizacije podlubnikov pod naravnimi pogoji.

Title:
Monitoring the intensity of bark beetle colonization after the treatment of Norway spruce with salicylic acid
Abstract:
Bark anatomy and the physiological condition of a potential host tree are crucial for the success of bark beetles, which are the most frequent pest of Norway spruce in Europe. In the presented field experiment, 100 mM SA was applied to the bark sections of Norway spruce [Picea abies (L.) Karst.] between 0.5 and 5 m above the ground, prior to being attacked by bark beetles [Ips typographus L. (Col., Scolytidae)], in order to study the colonization levels of bark beetles and the significance of SA for mediating stress-tolerance under natural conditions. SA-treated bark had significantly less entrance holes and exhibited fewer and shorter maternal galleries than control-bark. From this perspective, exogenous SA was shown to reduce beetle mass colonization and tree mortality. In future the use of SA could be of great benefit to an integrated tree pest management.
