Abstract:V diplomski nalogi z naslovom Značilnosti in razvoj profesionalnosti pri učiteljih geografije smo v teoretičnem delu predstavili delo učitelja, značilnosti njegovega profesionalnega razvoja, njegov pomen, faze, modele in dejavnike, ki vplivajo na profesionalni razvoj učitelja. Uporabljeni sta bili deskriptivna in kavzalna neeksperimentalna metoda empiričnega raziskovanja.

Title:Characteristics and development of professionalism among geography teachers
Abstract:In the theoretical part of the graduate thesis entitled Characteristics and development of professionalism among geography teachers, we introduced the teacher's work, its professional development characteristics, its importance, phases, models and the factors that influence the teacher professional development. In the empirical part, we wanted to check the actual situation of geography teachers in the field of professional development, motifs that play a role in choosing this profession, their work in different employment periods, and their direct professional training. We used questionnaires. Therefore, the aim of the research was to find out how their professionalism changes in relation to years of service. We used descriptive and causal non-experimental empirical research methods. The data were collected through questionnaires filled in by primary and secondary school geography teachers. We found out that the majority of interviewees chose the teaching profession due to their love and joy of working with children and that they want a stronger emphasis on experiential learning during their studies. The interviewees attend constant professional development seminars, mostly for their own professional training. The data collected through questionnaires show that geography teachers have clearly formed opinions about professional development and are aware of its importance; however, they pointed out a number of dilemmas concerning it.
Keywords:Professional development, geography teachers, the study of geography, forms of continuous improvement and training, curriculum, teaching methods and strategies.
