Abstract:V diplomskem delu Razumevanje sokratske ironije je predstavljena ironija starogrškega filozofa Sokrata v Platonovih dialogih, pomembna dilema, ki se je je lotilo že mnogo filozofov in filozofinj in je aktualna vse do današnjih dni. Raziskali smo ironijo – njeno predhodnico eironeío in njen starogrški pomen, ter njen zgodovinski in semantični razvoj do današnje moderne ironije. Primerjali smo različne teorije sokratske ironije in odkrivali, na kakšen način je ironija v dialogih uporabljena in s kakšnim namenom. S pomočjo dognanj filozofa Gregoryja Vlastosa smo pokazali, kako je prav Sokrat spremenil semantični pomen predhodnici ironije, eironeíi. Z deskriptivno metodo smo pregledali kritike in dopolnitve Vlastosovih tez in s komparativno metodo primerjali nova spoznanja o sokratski ironiji z ironičnimi značilnostmi dialoga Fajdros ter tako pokazali sokratsko ironijo na konkretnih primerih.

Title:Understanding socratic irony
Abstract:In the graduation thesis Understanding socratic irony an ancient Greek philosopher's Socrates irony in Platon's dialogues is presented, It is an important dilema that many different philosophers dealt with and it is still interesting today. We explored an irony – its predecessor eironeia and its ancient greek meaning and also historic and semantic development up to today's modern irony. We compared different theories of socratic irony and were thinking how is the irony used in dialogues and what is its intention, With the help of Gregory Vlastos' considerations we showed how Socrates changed the semantic meaning of irony's predecessor eironeíi. We examined critics and additions of Vlastos' theories with the help of descriptive method. A comparative method was used to compare new insights about socratic irony with ironic characteristics of a dialogue Fajdros and so showed the socratic irony in concrete examples.
